You are a windsurfer and want to get into foil windsurfing? This overview explains the basic categories of boards and their range of use – especially for windsurfers.

WINDSURF FOIL

DEDICATED FOIL BOARDS

These are boards specifically designed for the use with foils and thus, deliver the best performance in their range of windsurf foiling.
If needed, they could also be used for normal windsurfing but due to their specialized shape, they do not ride and feel and perform as windsurf boards of similar size – they are clearly less efficient and smooth and easy.

WINDSURF

BOARDS WITH FOIL OPTION

Purely designed for windsurfing, these boards also provide a great deal of fun when used with foils. Therefore come with special boxes which can handle the forces of foils.

CONVERTIBLE

BOARDS WITH FOIL WINDSURF OPTION

Some boards, especially our SUPs, have an incredible range of use and offer a surprising potential for foil windsurf, too. Their performance is maybe not at the highest level but in return they are super easy to handle and a hell lot of fun.

Recommended NEIL PRYDE foils

For foil sizes: see NP recommendation. In general: the lower the speed, the bigger the wing -> for more power / lift (just like with sails)

HOW DOES
A FOIL WORK

1. MOUNT OPTIOINS

• Deep Tuttlebox
• Powerbox
• 2x Long Track Box

2. MAST

Short mast - ease and control
Long mast - less touchdowns

3. FRONT WING

• The bigger the area, the more lift (light wind / low speed)

• Small and thin front wing for more speed (high wind)

4. FUSELAGE

Long: more stability
Short: better manoeuvrability

5. TAIL WING

Down-Tilted -> power, lift and stability at lower speed
Up-Tilted -> control and top speed
