The final FPT Event of the year
In the final FPT event to the year Yentel Caers B-16 came 3rd in the single elimination and managed to climb up the ladder to 2 in the double elimination. So, Yentel made another podium!
Besides this the fleet was packed with many JP and NP riders and all of them sailed really well – thumbs up for that.
Yentel reports:
Naxos is an amazing place for freestyle. When I was younger, I used to go there for holiday/training with my family but the last time was about 10 years ago. So, I was really looking forward to go back there, especially after we didn’t manage to get a result on Sylt.
I was even more motivated when I saw the mega wind forecast for the event days. And Naxos delivered!
The fleet was full, so on the first day it was qualifying rounds and the girls. Good to see the young generation fighting it out to get into the main event.
Day 2 was time for the action for us: the Mens Single Elimination.
Everybody was getting his small gear ready and I was on my 4,0-4,4 NP Wizard sails and the 86 litre JP Freestyle.
Everything was going according to plan for me and I proceeded round after round. In the semi final I was up against Lennart and lost out. But I could secure the 3rd place on the podium in the single elimination behind my friend Steven and Lennart.
Day 3 was a long day of waiting to see who would make his way up through the Double to challenge me. Conditions where a dream again. Starboard tack winds for 4,0-4,4 metre sails. For the comeback my money was on Dieter and Jacopo and in the end it was Jacopo to battle me for 3rd. In a very close heat I managed to stay ahead of him.
My next heat was up against Steven for the battle of second place. Steven won this event 15 years ago and still is fighting for the podium. I was feeling good on the water and I could stay ahead of Steven, too. The next and final heat was the final against Lennart. Unfortunately, the wind dropped a little – just like in Fuerte. The conditions were still great for an epic final. Unfortunately, I didn’t feel as comfortable in the lighter winds and Lennart took the upper hand.
Overall, I was stoked to finish second on Naxos and that I managed to push my level of freestyle a bit higher by pulling off the Double Air Culo into every heat.
