“Mr. Consistent”: Many more podium places for Yentel Caers!

A review of season 2024 from a freestyler’s perspective.

Let’s start with the positive and list B-16’s achievements – Yentel Caers’ results in 2024 in the three disciplines:

  • FREESTYLE

2nd: FPT Vice-European-Champion Freestyle 2024 Overall

3rd: PWA World Tour Freestyle 2024 Overall

2nd: FPT event Naxos

3rd: PWA event Fuerteventura

Outstanding freestyle highlight: Yentel Caers is the only rider who managed to be on every single PWA freestyle podium in Fuerteventura  since 2016!

  • FOILSTYLE

2nd: FPT Vice-European-Champion Foilstyle 2024 Overall

2nd: FPT event Vieste

  • TOW-IN

2nd: FPT Vice-European-Champion Tow-In 2024 Overall

1st: FPT event Vesoul, France

1st: FPT event Geneve, Switzerland

Tow-In highlight: Yentel’s full triple air rotation, stomped and at a height never seen before.

2024 was not a great season for the freestyle discipline.

The PWA planned to run only two events this year. Once again the conditions on Fuerteventura cooperated and the riders experienced an outstanding event! On Sylt the race organisation disappointingly decided to hold other disciplines in perfect freestyle weather and postpone the freestyle competition to light winds, where it finally had to be cancelled. As a result, there was – unfortunately – only one PWA event this year where the riders could showcase their talent.

The original plan of the FPT was better with several events split into three different categories, qualifiers and a European and World Wide tour called “Proving Ground”, “Continental” and “Championship Series”, each worth a different amount of scoring points for the overall title. In the end, there also were only two main events counting for the “European Title” and in one event, the wind didn’t cooperate. So, the result was the same as with the PWA: the riders had only one event where the freestyle sailors could compete for the European Freestyle title.

Yentel Caers B-16 reports:

What a season again!

Another consistent year for me. Every event on the podium! I am FPT Vice-European Champion in the three disciplines Foilstyle, Tow-In and Freestyle and took the 3rd place overall on the PWA Freestyle World Tour.

Starting the season FPT in Italy with Freestyle and Foilstyle and Tow-In. There was good wind in Vieste for freestyle … but only before the event. Fortunately there was enough wind for foilstyle and compared to last season this was absolutely crazy because the level went so much up.
Second place in foilstyle for me.

Vieste Foilstyle

Next up was a tow-in event in Vesoul. It was a great show for the crowd and I was able to claim victory in France.

Then came the most important event of the year for me: Fuerteventura, Spain. I arrived on this Canary Island for training already a few weeks before the event. This gave me a good feeling for the spot again and the confidence that I could win the event. During the contest the wind wasn’t as strong as during training, which made it a bit more tricky for me. I’m glad to finish on the podium once more: 3rd place.

My consistency helped me being the only rider who managed to be on every Fuerte podium since 2016!

The summer break was spent at home with family and friends

… and loads of windsurfing!
Beginning of September I was invited to join and help at a JP/NP Young Guns camp at lake Garda! It was great and inspiring to see young kids getting into our sport.

The foilstyle and tow-in event in Geneva was next on the schedule. The day before the event a 4,0m storm raged in Switzerland and seemed to have used up all the wind for the event. In return, the conditions were perfect for tow-in. Thanks to the speed of the winch and the wave of the wakeboard boat we could go massive and race the level of tow-in freestyle. I’m absolutely stoked to have won the event with the first ever triple aerial rotation in windsurf!

Geneve Air Time

The FPT reported, “Yentel Caers takes the Tow-In discipline to new heights, literally … There is no one else that hits it as aggressively as Yentel does, with every take off leaving the crowds gasping. The highlight of his final has to be the full triple air rotation, stomped and at a height never seen before. He rotated even further than Sam Esteve’s signature Samair, completing all three rotations in the air, and leaving himself time to cushion the landing and look at the crowds to claim his move …

Sam Esteve put in a Triple Funnel to then send it on the wave. Taking his hand off during his signature Samair as well he secured himself the third place.”

Stunning Sam

The forecast for the PWA World Cup in Sylt was good but because of the many disciplines, we freestylers unfortunately only were scheduled to sail in Germany light wind conditions. In the end it was cancelled which didn’t give me the chance improve my ranking and to fight for the world title but put me on a solid 3rd place overall.

Also the FPT in Naxos saw an amazing forecast and this time we were lucky: Naxos did deliver! This must have been on of the best and highest level of freestyle contents we had in a long time. Stoked to finish the season of with a second place.
