Keahi de Aboitiz wins the Dahui Backdoor Shootout SUP division

Keahi de Aboitiz was the champion of the 2017 Dahui Backdoor Shootout SUP division. He had the best performance overall, overcoming athletes like Mo Freitas (2nd) and Kai Lenny (3rd). Follow his report about the competition below:

I was really humbled to get the opportunity to compete in the Dahui Backdoor Shootout SUP division this year. I’ve always watched this event in the past and it’s something that’s been on my bucket list to surf pipe with just a few guys out in a heat. Being first alternate, I wasn’t sure if I’d get in but due to an injury from Zane Schweitzer, I was lucky enough to get a spot in the event. Unfortunately the epic conditions we hoped for really didn’t come into play this year for the SUP heats, but it was still great to surf a heat at backdoor with just a few guys out in some fun waves. With a couple good waves in my heat and the highest total of the round, I was stoked to take out the event! Thanks to Dahui and Tristan for the opportunity and I really hope I get another shot next year in potentially pumping waves at Pipe!

Congrats Keahi!
