20. September, I took part in Danube SUP Marathon 2014 in Bratislava, Slovakia. I was defeating my latest race victory. The event is slowly growing and now in the third year there were almost 60 participants, mainly from Slovakia but also some Czechs and Austrians.
The organizers only had one open class, so, we could see all different kinds of boards on the start line. A few serious competitors were using 14′ carbon racing boards but many others used iSUPs and all-round boards.
The race was long 20 km from Bratislava to the White Water Resort in Cunovo. I took the lead almost immediately after start and was constantly gaining on the rest of the field. I won the race leading over 5 min in front of the second finisher. The river current was pretty strong which raised my average speed to 13.5 km/h and I finished the 20 km in 1 hour and 26 minutes.
